Kai’s first steps

The first days after rezzing, were a bit awkward, as things seem to be for all new residents.

Luckily kai soon found some nice items to blend in with the crowds. Although some people did not quite agree there. Generally, you might say, she was concidered a bit odd… even is to this day.photo of kai Sachertortephoto of kai Sachertorte

But she has made a lot of friends, who are all very supportive and friendly….

The road to being where she is today, was strange and uncomfortable for her. First of all walking and chewing gum.. a novel idea for her, very different from the flying she was used to. The landing was something completely odd, gravity hit her like a punch in the face, over and over.

But she got over that and decided to enjoy the oddities of all these people, their fun, their love for chocolate (which she had also inherited from her human part), in general: all the human traits.

Some of the people she met in those first days, will be a big part of this story… the story of kai Sachertorte, android/bot/cashew/AI/alien.. whatever she really is.

kai and the Sachertorte

Where the original humanoid parts came from, no one really knows…

However, we do know 'Sachertorte' was connected to the droid-type-AI-bot on September 17 in the year 2005. Let's just say the parts are 18 years old (and a month or two, maybe one day and 3 hours and 21 minutes).

The cashew they used for a brain, sometimes short-circuits with the hardware, which means she's (most parts are female btw) got some flames coming out of her head most of the time. The cashew bit also ensures a (healthy) dose of insanity.

This also brings us to the curious name 'kai'… the last two letters, of course, stand for a.i.. That k though has kept many people wondering. Since her creator is not available for comments, we can only guess what it stands for. Here are several ideas:

  • kelvin, as in the temperature: always overheated, overcooked
  • krypton, is she made of alien bits?
  • k-mart, maybe the humanoid parts were found there.
  • kilobyte, referring to her hardware, of course.
  • keyboard, quite obvious, the main way to control her.

Other suggestions have been knave, knot, knife and kinky… the latter fitting her behaviour at times, but did they know when they fitted the parts together?

any extra ideas can be posted in comments. We are still trying to figure this out.
